Enjoying the outdoors in Tucson’s summer heat can be a challenge – except on Mt. Lemmon! Temperatures on the 9,000-foot peak average 30 degrees cooler than in the heart of Tucson, making it the perfect nearby summer getaway. Between the charming town of Summerhaven, abundance of hiking trails, and mesmerizing views, there is always more to explore on Mt. Lemmon.
Hikers of all skill levels can find something their speed on the mountain because the trail difficulty ranges from easy to hard. For a relaxing stroll featuring beautiful wildflowers and stunning views at the highest elevation, wander along the Meadow and Mount Lemmon Trail Loop. To take it up a notch, try the Marshall Gulch Trail next to a lazy river along the way to the Lemmon Pools. After hiking, you can continue to enjoy the scenery and rest your legs by taking a ride on the ski lift.
Nestled in between peaks is the pleasant town of Summerhaven. Stop for a bite to eat at the Cookie Cabin, which serves pizza and ice cream in addition to its famous plate-sized cookies. If you want to extend your stay on the mountain, the Mt. Lemmon hotel is now open. Before you leave, don’t forget a souvenir from the Mt. Lemmon General Store!
