Celebrating 20 Years of the Long Realty Cares Foundation
The Long Realty Cares Foundation has been working to improve the Tucson and Southern Arizona Community since 2002.
In 2002, Long Realty Company decided to find a way to expand their philanthropic activities in the southern Arizona community. Supported by sales associates and employees, the company established the Long Realty Cares Foundation with the mission of “offering the promise of hope to those who need shelter, sustenance, and comfort, and the commitment to serve the needs of the communities in which we work and live.” Now, the Cares Foundation celebrates twenty years of staying true to its mission and donating over $3.5 million to more than 200 local charities.
The backbone of the Long Realty Cares Foundation is the real estate agents and employees who are enthusiastic about making a difference in their community. There are over 500 Long Cares Members who time and time again contribute funding, time, and energy to the organization. In addition to making regular donations, many members volunteer their time to help the Cares Foundation’s grant recipients.
Any contributing member who donates is welcome to nominate a charity to receive a grant. The recipients support a range of needs in the community, including social services, medical support, youth outreach, animal care, and educational programs. The lengthy list includes El Rio Health Center Foundation, Habitat for Humanity, and Therapeutic Riding of Tucson (TROT). El Rio started as a neighborhood health center. They use donated funds to provide quality, affordable healthcare to anyone in the southern Arizona region regardless of insurance status. Habitat for Humanity is a well-known nationwide home-building organization, but the Tucson branch built the CHUCK center to serve as a construction hub, warehouse, and training center. Since its inception, the Cares Foundation has supported Habitat Tucson, and the new project will help Habitat streamline its process. TROT aims to connect people with horses to improve overall well-being. People with disabilities can visit TROT to receive top-notch assistance and therapy. Donations from the Cares Foundation have helped support more than 2,000 therapeutic sessions every year for the last eight years.
Twenty years of success is undoubtedly cause for celebration, but the members of the Cares Foundation know there is still a great deal more to do. They will try to raise the most donations ever this year to continue their flourishing partnerships and foster new ones.
